about a block or two north of nine mile on northbound woodward tucked into a lime green building is one of the most delicious brunch diners in metro detroit.
featured on the food network’s show “diners, drive-ins, and dives”, this great find is identified by the line that wraps around the building on a sunday or saturday morning. i was introduced to the fly trap by ryan on a morning when we decided to shake up our normal breakfast spot. ill have to say i was a little skeptical but was pleasantly surprised by this little hole in the wall diner.
my highlights? it has to be a toss up between the following:
- the mismatched salt/pepper shakers. everything from vintage shakers to a dog peeing on a fire hydrant.
- the gingerbread waffle - served with sauteed apples and cinnamon syrup. amazing. i have tried to replicate it at home but its just not the same.
- THE COFFEE! they serve fair trade organic great lakes - motor city blend coffee. it is hands down the best coffee i have ever had.
so tomorrow when you are fumbling for a brunch spot, check out the fly trap in ferndale… well worth the wait!
