monday check-in : the novel?

Jessica Smith

Obsessing Over: the delicious pumpkin spice latte my sweetheart just dropped off for me. he is always full of surprises. last week he told me to get saturday off of work and pack a bag for the weekend. we headed up to traverse city (my first time!) and spent the weekend on the beautiful lake michigan shoreline. antique shops, the makers market, pumpkin picking, and exploring the city. perfect weekend with my amazing guy :)

Working On: fall and holiday promotions. along with compiling a portfolio for a potential outlet for graphic work. i cannot remember the last time i put together a portfolio… haha senior year of college? seems like forever ago!

Thinking About: how i completely forgot to mention the awesome event we went to the other night in downtown detroit. it was called eastern market after dark and was basically a self-guided tour through artists lofts, galleries, boutiques, and makers spaces around eastern market. what an incredible night. ryan’s cousin christian is a student at ccs and is part of a letterpress studio called signal return. he gave us a little tour through the shop and explained the different processes. i was like a kid in a candy shop. they offer classes… booyah :)

Anticipating: the future. ryan and i are collecting all of these hobbies/trades. we seriously need a warehouse workshop. and lots of tools. like a letterpress. and industrial sewing machine. and laser cutter. and lots of other things. forget wedding registries filled with dishes and towels haha… just kidding. but seriously.

Listening To: the new band i am absolutely obsessing over… the accidentals. we walked into the makers market this weekend and heard some great music that we both thought was just playing from a stereo over some speakers. then we walked to the center of the show to find two awesome artists on an electric cello and violin singing their hearts out. they were phenomenal. sort of like the vocals of regina spektor meets the attitude of the strokes (in fact they did this incredible cover of reptilia, find it on youtube here) we bought the cd from these two talented  high school girls, and listened the entire 4 hour drive home. anyway, i am going to do whatever i possibly have to do to convince them to play our wedding next fall. find them on facebook!

Wishing: that we were still up north, taking in the gorgeous color changing leaves. ok back to work!
