The daily ramblings and adventures at PEACE LOVE DESIGN. Design, fashion, food, and fun.

and then it was fall...

Jessica Smith

wow! i am sitting here curled up in my sweater with a giant cup of coffee wondering where did summer go?'

my most recent post covered the aftermath of my brother and sister-in-law's wedding shower... which feels like eons ago. to fill you in, a short time later, those goons had the most beautiful picture perfect wedding on the shores of lake huron. being in the wedding industry, i have had my fair share of family and friend weddings that i've been involved in. but there is nothing that can possibly prepare you for the day your baby brother says "i do".

their wedding has been submitted to a few different wedding blogs for publication but until then, i will give you a sneak peek!

it was an unbelievably beautiful event. i slept for a straight 24 hours after the wedding. no joke. and as soon as it was over, we began prepping for my older brother's wedding, which in brooklyn, new york in november.

in addition to all the beautiful summer weddings, i have checked a new box off of my checklist in life. as of september 12th, i am officially a homeowner. peace.love.design. will be relocating to fabulous and fashionable ferndale and we can't hardly wait! we are currently in demo mode...  sledgehammers and crowbars in hand!

stay tuned for some snapshots of summer weddings, exciting upcoming projects, and details on the new home renovation! in the meantime, check out what our summer brides are saying about us, order your 2014 custom holiday cards, or visit our etsy storefront to purchase our current designs!

cloud nine : a bridal shower story

Jessica Smith

i had the very special honor of throwing my very first bridal shower for my little brother, max, and his sweetheart fiancé, courtney. taking a hot air balloon ride is something that has always been on courtney's bucket list. and on august 15th, max crossed that off her bucket list and proposed to her 2000 feet in the air. (she said yes!)

i am not usually a fan of games at showers but with as competitive as the smith ladies are, these games were a riot!

we had an awesome time filled with lots of laughs. I'm pretty sure they could stock five kitchens with all the goodies they received! you better have me over for dinner courtney! special thanks to my mom, and all my aunts, especially aunt gail for hosting us in her beautiful home and aunt laura for helping with the food.

in two short weeks from tomorrow, these love birds will exchange vows on our beach up north. i can't hardly wait! that being said, i had better get back to work :)

happy easter, good friday, and almost earth day! whew what a busy spring it has been here at PLD! hope you are all out enjoying this gorgeous weather! here's what we've been up to:

etsy shops of the week : wedding favors

Jessica Smith

so i have been getting a lot of questions from my clients regarding suggestions for wedding favors. many times, favors get pushed to the side until the last minute and end up becoming somewhat of an afterthought. i thought i would use this week's etsy favorites to highlight a few suggestions and go over a few tips when selecting and packaging your wedding favors.

1. consider the season!

in other words, don't send cute individual hot cocoa mixes home with your guests in july. you may laugh but i have definitely seen it done! i love these beautiful succulents for spring or summer weddings, they can even double as place cards. looking for a fall idea? try individually wrapped mini apple pies. looking for a winter idea? consider mistletoe candles!

2. don't over-do your names or logo!

no offense, but did you really think all your closest friends and family want a wine glass with your initials etched on them or coasters with your face decoupaged on them? bring your name and logo into the packaging but choose a gift that they will actually use. these wine coasters are a perfect example. your guests will actually use these! if you must monogram something, make sure it is subtle and not the focal point of your favor.

3. choose the right edible!

the most common mistake i see in wedding favors is giving your guests food that is similar to whatever you gave them for dessert... a cupcake, cookies, brownies. these typically get left behind which is the last thing you want to happen with the extra $500 you just spent. go for an edible they will be excited to use. these individual spice kits by dell cove spices are fabulous. they come in plenty of flavor options and look how pretty they are! other unique edibles include smores kits, canned jams or honeys. hot sauces, and more.

4. don't forget the kids!

although i find that most weddings these days are adults only, plenty of clients invite children to their weddings. just as you will be offering a special meal for kids, remember to offer a special favor. this customized box of crayons by cio prints is such a cute idea. you could also get these adorable activity bags and fill them with little dollar store finds like stickers, candy, bracelets, etc.

Jessica Smith

it has been a complete whirlwind since i got back from florida! lots of designs in production, new clients, build class homework and shower planning of course!

Working On: aside from the current client work, i am working on putting together some inspirational pinterest boards that will hopefully be of some help to any of you stuck in a rut with your wedding planning. the boards will cover different wedding styles, colors, and seasons, helping us design the perfect stationery for your event. so stay tuned for more details on our pinterest updates!

Thinking About: the crazy weather this week! pardon my weather obsession, if you lived in michigan you would understand the suspense of checking the weather app every morning... will it snow today? or will it be 70 degrees and sunny? (both of which are happening this week by the way...)

Anticipating: the next build class! i must admit i was absolutely terrified to step through those doors. but there was no need for my nerves because i am working with a fantastic group of individuals and its been absolutely crazy finding out all that detroit has to offer. lots more to come on that!

Listening To: its a motion city soundtrack kind of monday... with an extra dose of caffeine!

happy monday everyone!

monday check-in : flo-RIDA

Jessica Smith

greetings from the sunshine state! although its not very sunny today, i am writing this sitting next to raindrops in the pool. but thats ok because i am not feeling great today anyway. yes, i am the only person on the planet that gets a cold in sunny 80 degree weather. eeesh!

Working On: catching up on some design work and touching base with my print company before i return tomorrow. looking forward to jumping back into some of this week's exciting projects!

Anticipating: the adorable fall save the dates that are in production right now, definitely one of my new favorites! can you believe fall is right around the corner!?

Listening To: raindrops. i forgot how much i missed rain. its so calming.

Wishing: that i could just rip up my plane ticket and stay here in the warm weather! i see i am returning to 34 degrees and snowing tomorrow... really? cmon michigan, lets hurry up and get this whole spring thing going!

see you soon mitten!

spring, is that you?!

Jessica Smith

ok, so i am absolutely 100% cheating on michigan spring in florida! guilty guilty! but this is the perfect time to escape because i definitely plan on returning to warmer weather. then again, as all you michiganders know, we are probably in for at least two more crazy snow storms before we reach actual "spring"!

wishing you all a beautiful first day of spring!

monday check-in : the irish version

Jessica Smith

happy saint patrick's day! instead of jumping on a party bus for kegs & eggs and the usual downtown detroit st patty's day awesomeness, i am currently recovering from yesterday's 32nd annual corktown 5k race. no, i am not recovering from the actual run, but my body is aching from shivering in the fifteen degree, snowy & blowy weather we ran in! oh my word, i have never been so cold in my entire life. and i have sat through freezing rain and snow at michigan stadium. but this one takes the cake! anyway, it was a lot of fun, very cool experience to be running the streets of detroit. here's to hoping its warmer next year!

Working On: finishing a few last minute projects before i leave for florida tomorrow! i am so looking forward to lounging in the sun, a round or two of golf, and wearing sundresses and bikinis. i just checked the tampa weather and we are in for sunny 80 degree weather all week long! and hooray for being able to fit all my shoes in my suitcase and still be under the weight limit! its a saint patty's day MIRACLE!

Thinking About: the messy office downstairs that NEEDS to be cleaned. i still have everything from the show all disheveled. spring cleaning time!

Anticipating: the next couple months. i got accepted into an entrepreneur class at D:Hive Build in downtown detroit. BUILD is a business and project planning class designed for aspiring and established entrepreneurs. so stay tuned, lots of fun stuff in the coming months!

Listening To: i think i hear bag pipes off in the distance...

happy irish monday everyone!
